An incident that touched my heart

I have been thinking of having a blog for some time, but I couldn't think of anything to write in it. At last something interesting happened.

My Dad and I was in the car outside the hospital. The entrance to the hospital was on a slope. You need to go up a slop to get to the main entrance. Suddenly, a saw a 50-60 year old man trying to push himself up the slope. I thought it was a joke and looked around him to see if there is somebody nearby helping him or a tv cameraman. I thought it might be one of those jokes on the television. But there was nobody around.

He push himself up a bit and he fell back. So, he go up a bit and turn his wheels outwards to stop himself from falling back. Then a car pass by him, he had to turn his wheel straight to let the car pass, but the driver didn't even stop to help him. By then he was back to phase one again.

I quickly told my dad, and his face showed that he was utterly shocked about it. He ran down the hill quickly and help push the man up to the hospital. ( I am not bragging about my dad, it is the truth.) At the top I saw a young lady standing there and directing my dad to push the man in the wheelchair towards her. I was so shocked, a healthy young lady wearing those laboratory or doctor's coat was smiling at the man in the wheelchair all this time, seeing everything that I saw, and she didn't even come down and help him.

When my dad came into the car, I asked him about her, he said the lady used to push the man in the wheelchair up, but this time she just didn't do it. Another thing that really outraged me was that 2 cars pass by the man, and he had to push his wheelchair straight to let them pass(means falling back down), but they didn't even help him, or stop the car to come down and help him. That is horrifying. One more thing, there was this young man in a office work shirt (those type that you need to wear a suit over) that came out of his car. His car was parked very near to the man that was coming up the slope in his wheelchair. I thought he came out to help, but no to my dismay, he just didn't care, and went to the backseat to get his stuff. The young man obviously have seen the wheelchair man trying with all his strength to push himself up, but did not even offer his help. Come on, this kind of things, you don't even need to offer help, just help, don't even need to waste your time asking "May I help you?". You just run right behind and start pushing the wheelchair with the old man in it up.

This incident did really touch my heart. The man in the wheelchair had the courage, determination and other things to push himself up. If I were him, I would have begged other people around me to help push me up. Even when my dad was pushing him up, he still used his hands to push the wheels, so my dad needn't use so much effort. My dad also told me that when he was pushing the old man, the old man kept on saying that he is alright and my dad didn't need to help him. Obvisiouly he is not alright.

Another thing is, this incident really pissed me. Where was all the kind and friendly aAustralian gone. I am not being steroetype, I know there are kind and friendly Australian, so is there nasty and selfish Australians. But how hard could it be to even help push the mand up a bit. I know if I pushed him up, it would have taken both of us ages, but that still helped the man in the wheelchair.

One more thing I am very grateful that I have my all my limbs, I could walk up the slope if I had to see the doctor. Unlike the man in the wheelchair, to come to the hospital and see the doctor is such a heesel that you have to push yourself up the steep slope.

Anyway hope you guys can leave some comments about this, I want to know what you guys think. I guess most of you would think such a long entry!!!!

At least you felt like helping that poor man. I am also pissed at the people who didn't give the man a hand. Thumbs up for you and your dad :)
